European Content Syndication Report -
"The Changing Face of Europe's Syndication Landscape"

Overview

Content syndication involves the selling of content from content providers, also known as originators, to multiple content distribution channels, the distributors. The syndication model has been an integral part of content markets for decades, especially within the publishing and television sector. News agencies such as Reuters and Agence France de Presse and television companies like ProSieben and the BBC have a long tradition in syndicating their content to third parties.

The traditional syndication model is now also being applied to the online content market. Online content syndication involves the collection of information from multiple sources, packaging that information in a standard format, and making it available to distributors who seek content for use on their media platforms, such as Web sites, WAP sites and SMS based outlets. Examples of syndicated content include news, articles, commentary, photos, video clips, comics, games and software programs.

The report includes in-depth analysis of issues such as:

  • what are the trends in Europe's syndication landscape?
  • the relationship between syndication and digital asset management
  • the position of pure-play syndicators on the European online syndication market
  • the role of these syndicators in the value chain of content
  • the adoption of a syndicator role by content producers and distributors
  • technology developments, such as XML and syndication software suites
  • developments on the distributor side
  • country by country overviews of the syndication market
  • profiles of the most dominant and/or innovative players in Europe
